Stephanie Rushton Photography
Stephanie Rushton recently joined us in the studio to get a feel for what we have been up to and took some photographs as part of her commission into looking at Women in Work. Her photographs are currently displayed at The AirSpace Gallery in Stoke-on-Trent, as part of the group exhibition “Women’s Work” (30th September 2016 – 5th November 2016). The exhibition explores the hidden and unsung labour carried out by women in the home, workplace and public life. Redressing the imbalance in history and the arts where work made by women has been undervalued or simply not recognised. One of her featured images from the exhibition included Reiko in her studio. Stephanie studied photography at Blackpool and The Fylde College in the 1980’s and was apprenticed to David Bailey for five years. Following a 25 year photographic career in fashion, advertising and editorial portraiture, she is now a senior lecturer in Photography at the University of Derby. Her recent work is concerned with exploring issues surrounding art, ecology and eco-psychology – eco-psychology being the study of the relationship between humanity and the earth through ecological and psychological principles.
